Learning
I am learning to read harder books. My goal was Level 8 . I am up to Level 5 now.I used to be at Level 2 at the beginning of the term.
I can still write 2 sentences. I need to learn to write longer stories and do 3 or 4 sentences.
I don't like writing stories sometimes.
I am getting neater with my writing too.
I like PMP. I am learning to do cool things. (Boyden)
I am supporting and motivating Boyden with his reading and writing.
He needs to build more self confidence.
He is capable of writing longer stories and has some great ideas.
His reading comprehension and word solving are improving.
He reads more for meaning now.
Next we want to improve his reading levels
and motivate him to produce longer stories independently.

Miharo Learning (Literacy and Numeracy)
I am learning to use the computer in the library to
learn Maths and writing. I can use them on the ipad too.
I like to go on the computer in the library sometimes before school.
I am learning to spell lots of words and am good at jumping on them
on the alphabet mat.
I like to hear the stories from Mrs Donaldson. (Boyden)
I provide opportunities for Boyden to use reading, writing
and maths applications both on the computer and the ipad.
He likes going on the library computer before school
and showing others how to do things.
Boyden is developing confidence in this area.He is also learning
to spell words on the alphabet grid. He listens well to stories.
Next he will improve his co-ordination in written work
and his spelling vocabulary knowledge. ( Mrs Bennett).
Skipping (Jump Rope For Heart)
I didn't know how to skip. I can do up to 30 skips now.
I can run and skip and do ski jump too.
I want to skip up to 50 soon.( Boyden)
The school is involved in a Jump Rope for Heart programme.
Most of Room 2 could not skip. All but one can skip forwards now.
The tamariki are now learning to jump backwards and do skill jumping
such as ski jump and bell jump.
Most children can run around the court skipping.
One boy who could not skip has gone from no skips to 30 on the spot
in just 2 weeks. The programme is for 6 weeks.
On June 13th 2014 we will have a Jump Rope for Heart skipping activity afternoon
for the children and whanau.
Children are setting goals to achieve that afternoon.
The emphasis is on participation and fun. ( Mrs Bennett)

Boyden has improved in his storywriting structure and spelling.
He needs to develop more self confidence in this area.
He has improved a lot in swimming.

Walking Safely
Constable Phil is teaching us to walk safely.
We are learning to cross the road safely.
We know where to stand and know parts of the road such as the kerb and the gutter.
Duffy Role Model Assembly
We had Diana Queenin as our Duffy Role Model. She talked about Dinosaurs
and showed us fossils. She also told us how important it is to read to helpour learning.
The children loved the Duffy books that they chose.
ipads
I built a school with Sean on the ipad. It shows where we play outside.
I had to match the shapes and I made lights.(Boyden)
As part of our Geometry unit in Maths the children had to build either a school
or a house in pairs. They had to use attributes such as shapes, pattern, direction, size and colour.
The children worked well together and enjoyed the activity. ( Mrs Bennett)

(Boyden)
I showed the children how to use the Tellagami app on the ipad.
The children can make a variety of characters and change them accordingly.
They can write words or record their voice.
I circulate and assist if needed to support or help.
Many of the children are quite independent in this app now.
They tend to prefer to record rather than write words and love making lots of different characters.
(Mrs Bennett)
Storywriting/ Masks
Boyden
I have got a mask.
It looks funny.
Boyden selected the mask on the ipad that he wanted to have a photo with.
He wrote about it and we published his caption
and put the pictures on the classroom wall.
The objective was to stimulate the children's imaginations.
I encouraged him to think about which mask he liked the best.
He chose the same one that I first picked
because I liked it and because he think it looked funny.
(Mrs Bennett)

I wrote a story about the truck with Harold in.
We saw stars and Whaea Anne read us a book.

I encouraged Boyden to spell some of his own words.
He knew 'and' and 'the' I helped him with 'stars' and 'book.'
He got'we saw' from the modelling book.
When the children have written their stories they read them to me and I highlight in "gold for great"
words that they have attempted well or spelt or located for themselves. (Mrs Bennett)

Some could sit on the bottom. Most can now kick with a flutter-board.
All can blow bubbles and kick at the side of the pool.
It has been rewarding to see how much the class has increased in water confidnce and skills.
